Gorilla angreb - Aborted 2000 EP & bedre tider 12''

As i finally get my self together after a ferocious, funny as hell night with a lot of alcohol (what a straight-edge-r i am!) running in my veins, i got up unexpected good and fresh. As a result of my good overall condition i decide to post gorilla angreb. Plan A was a Young wasteners post, but i think those guys are not the type of band that amuses me, i'll dare to say...
Gorilla angreb took form once again in the beautiful gardens of Ungdomshuset squat. When amdi petersens arme finally torn-apart, their members made some other great bands - as you may already know - and one of those bands was Gorilla angreb.
Peter from Amdi Petersens Armé started the band with Mai, Banger and Retardo (who got his name after having played in Danish punk band Los Retardos). Mai and Peter had originally formed the band in the autumn of 1999 as a sort of a project, but after 2002 the band began to be a real full time project.
The 7'' aborted came out in 2005 to deliver 4 tracks of fast, unwounded punk rock. Great female vocals that are not the smooth-tongued thing, but clear, bruisy and phlegmatic...
On the other hand the "bedre tider" 12'' has a more radio-friendly sound and is the more easily recognizable and ear-catchy in my opinion. Think that you get the same "beautiful" voice with a more "shake-your-body" rock thing that is totally amazing, if you are the type of human that can stand 5 minutes without listening to all the boring warhate thing...
They tend to remind me some other bands after many listenings, but i can't recall the names. So, i am either a fool, or they are good enough on the cheating-thing... who knows? hehehe
Surely, melodic and for specific tastes. Enjoy

P.S. the k-town series can go on and on forever, that's why we'll do just one more post for this section (propably ripping headache), to continue with some japanese and greek stuff... It's time i guess... take care...

O.K, so this isn't pure headfirst hardcore punk, or crust as fuck..crust, nor true norwegian black metal, but hell this is really good! Gorilla Angreb is a K-town band (obviously!) playing a weird style of punk, other times leaning towards raw garage, and other times sweat-talking pop themes...

You can distinctively see two different periods of the band, one being the earlier days, namely the ''Aborted 2000'' ep, where the band has more garage punkrock structured songs with shouted girly vocals, a rawer production and an urge to get through the songs as dirty as possible. On the other hand, the ''Bedre Tider'' 12'' shows a more mature songwriting process (''the process'' by Judgement is a fucking good song!), stearing away from normality, while the band explores new ground. It is dangerously poppy, but in a harmfull un-pop way...the song melodies can stick to your head worse than a bubblegum on your filthy skateshoes...speaking about the melodies, what an oddity they are indeeeed!!! Especially the song ''Pa Patrulje'' feels like a mix between the Wipers and Neil Young's ''Dead Man'' soundtrack (the excellent Jim Jarmous film with Jonnie Depp)...it has an earie haunted dessert feeling to it...very good!

I think one of them runs the really good Repoman record store in Kobenhavn, while another guy is P.J. Bonneman (hehe)...don't know anything about the others...actually what do members of broken-up punk bands do when they no longer play in a band? Do they still stay in the scene?

P.S. it is actually nice having a cup of coffee while listening to ''ciggaretter & kaffe'', a song about the singer of No hope for the Kids skipping work (and his girlfriend!) to enjoy ciggaretter & kaffe with mr. Bonneman himself in layed back attitude...good valuable times!

Hjertestop - Vi ses i Helvede LP & Aaarh Fuck...Det Er Hjertestop! 7''

Dbill, the handsome goat-riser :
By doing a quick googlesearch on the name Heartstop, you will come across a bunch of lame uninspired emo rock alternative kids with perfectly combed hairstyle, trimmed ironed clothes (probably courtesy of some sporsorship with some hic clothing company), who seem to be winning in their songs about love (which they haven't met, and/or has brocken their heart, or made it stop..their heart...hence the name...;)wink )...

On the other hand, by checking out the name Hjertestop you will get a pack of punx with blood on their faces...from their live gigs, chipped teeth...from being too punk, chainlocks passed through their nose diy style...Come to think about it, Lasse could be the perfect picture on the Wikipedia ''What is Punk'' page!...I'm pretty sure that if Heartstop crossed Hjertestop on the street, then the emobitch yankees wouldn't dare touch another music equipment in their life out of fear that the danish motherfuckers would cut their hands off.

As you have figured out by now, Hjertestop is punk. Hjertestop is also the only band that their melodies make them sound more raw, rather than more...melodic! Taking quess from the old-era punk bands this trio makes some unrelentingly attack tunes, while they seem to add the exact dose of raw rock and roll, that urges you to smash your head on your wall a dozen times more than your head can handle. Their ''" AAARH FUCK...DET ER HJERTESTOP ! " 7inch is definately more raw, composing-wise, will the ''Vi ses i Helvede'' LP is more...should i say EPIC ROCK!!! Both are totally essential to your collection, and don't fucking miss picking them up wherever you find them. I can't really say ''they sound like this band'' or ''they are that kind of punk'' cause they really don;t sound like any other band, something that makes them even more fascinating.

Hjertestop also shreds live...Passionate and full of angst, fun and provocative, they are the reason you like busting your ass doing DIY gigs while you are losing money because of them.

Hjertestop is punk, cause their members are involved in the diy punk scene...We spent two or three days in Lasses fucked up apartment during the Antimob euro mini-tour, he made an excellent breakfast (''just eat what you find in the fridge''), and even took part in the diy german scheisse porn film also staring Nicolaj Hjertestop, Goran from Hamburg, Fabsie aus Burial und Sara.

Listen to them or else Lasse will rubb his 69 Ungsdomhuset tatoo (which is right over his dick) on your ugly face. Also if you come across Heartstop beat them up.

P.S. this is from the Hjertestop page, and is pretty informing about the attitude many can't handle:

FROM A GERMAN MESSAGE BOARD AFTER A CONCERT THERE :
"Watch out for this band!
Last weekend we had a concert in Berlin with 2 bands from Copenhagen. And one of them, called "Hjertestop" were total idiots.
One of the guys punctured his body with several injection needles, and threw the bloody needles at the audience with the words:
" I have AIDS!".
To everyone not pleased with this form of acts at their concertplaces, this might serve as information."
WE PLAYED IN ATHENS, GREECE TOO :
"...Afterwards Hjerte Stop got on stage and even before they warm up the people, they started making sex jokes about the greeks and anal sex and were prompting people to have anal sex in order to get free t-shirts from them.
Well I’m sorry but I was not very amused by this kind of jokes and when I go to a punk/diy gig, I expect the band to have something more to say than doing dirty jokes."

Where's my money?

Mikxxx, in his way to the PUNK THURSDAYS gathering :
After the k-town pause (for the upload of the best comp. ever to be made. hehehe) here we go again with danish hardcore punk serial...

The very frustrating thing about writing some shits about some shitty band from a shitty place of our shitty world, it's not the writing itself but, the writing after dbill's writing...

even, if i'm not gay (i'm sure you think i am), i have to say that the guy got the language and writes down his "balls"... so, i have to write something nice and clever after his 1000000000000000000 words...

i'll do my best...
hjertestop are three heroin addicts (that now are on rehab) that totally kick asses, consisting by ex-members of bands such as incontrollados, dod ungdom, leathervein etc...
Here you get both their vinyl releases (if i'm not mistaken, they have also one demo cassete) from the long-time-gone years of 2008 and 2006 (if i'm not mistaken again). The lp is more rock'n'rollish in my opinion while the ep - my personal favourite -  is so fucking speedy, sing-along(ish) punk that you want to beat the shit out of the first living creature you'll come across after the hearing of this stone. Hardcore punk or punk rock ( call it whatever you like) at it's finest. Some tracks could be described as "the total fucking destruction of your little sister's coca-cola party"...

I have to say that hjertestop live appearances is something not to be imagined... friendly, fighting pogo magic alongside acts of seer madness. As for lasse's bad, cold jokes i must say that i was among the guys (when hjertestop played in athens) that was a little bit annoyed from his sexist shit-talking, but then (as i have already accurate describe) i may not "get" the danish humour...
the music is beyond every expectation, believe me. they rock

last but not least : leave comments to say who the fuck gay writer of this gay blog's, gay witing you prefer (the gay thing is just a joke, don't feel insulted, please)...

"I'm going for a walk. And there's nothing you can do 'cuz I don't have to live like you"

I have to overthrow (just for one post) the k-town series (we promise : tomorrow we'll continue with more danish punk), for an expression of deep(er) feelings...

Being ill is so fucking shit, when a hell of things happening in real time in real world, and you are nailed to a fucking bed... I'm ill and i can't stand it...
So, i'm turning illness into a weapon (hehehe)
So, i created a comp, if you are in need of a walk, or if you are going to wash the dishes, or if... something...
Let's take it track by track...

1. Naytia - o ponos den einai omorfos (pain isn't beautiful)
I think i can go on and on about naytia, so i'll keep it simple. Dog-shoutings is the perfect sound for every-single-one-comp to get started... Maybe, the best band ever came out of greece.. heavy influeced by the old-school european hardcore alongside heavy thrashy guitar parts makes them so fucking awesome... also, maybe the most well-known band outside greece...

2. Dishammer - Wish of Suffering
Dishammer is a band from spain that blends : raw, dis, hardcore and black metal so beautiful that you think that these sub-genres is one and the same... imagine more crusty darkthrone... amazing...

3. Hjertestop - Pis Mig I Munden
This one must go to the k-town section so i don't say nothing more... great punkrock in da face
(they are the next k-town post)

4. Tentacles of destruction - Red Squad
Hell, i found this band in the rat king blog (the guy that runs it also plays in this band) and i can't throw-away this song from my mind. It's going straight two weeks now...
in your face hardcore punk, heavy influeced by old uk punk, hailing from new zealand...

5. Violent arrest - Take The Power Back
I have had to post something from Ripcord, but i couldn't decide. I wanted to post the "poetic justice" album, but i figure it out to be more interesting to introduce you to violent arrest... check out NBSF blog for more infos... including members of Ripcord, Heresy, Excrement Of War, Can't Decide, Spite, Dumbstruck, Bomb Blast Men...

6. Detestation - Consumed by your greed
Do i have to mention anything? best crust band ever - best female vocals ever... their members played (before and after detestation) in 3 billion bands (including : question, faggot, severed head of state, hellshock, murder disco x and a tone more)...

7. Antimob - H ora tis lyssas (Rabid time)
Dbill is playing with these assholes... one of my latest obsessions... a band that i hated when i listen to, in the first place... a song againt racism and the stupid racistscums... the best hardcore punk band in greece nowadays... (go here)

8. Negative approach - Ready to fight
ENOUGH SAID (go here)

9. Straightjacket nation - distate
Maybe the best band outta australia. pissed-off, angry and in your face hardcore as it should be played (go here)

10. The now-denial - Eraser
one of my personal favourite, if you wanna hit your head on a wall. and it has this fucking mid drum break... eraseaa... (go here)

11. His hero is gone - Scalor
This blog's name is 'fifteen counts of arson" and i had to include something from this well-known album : scalor is the most representive track, if you wish to know who the fuck copy-pasted all the neo-crust bands...

12. Xeimeria narki (Hibernation) - Gualini Mitropoli (Metropolis Of Glass)
Second greek band that i can talk about forever... members of hibernation also have been playing in Pyrinikos xeimonas (nuclear winter), Xaotiko telos (chaotic end) and ten more bands... With two european tours, they are by far the best greek crust band that keep going on and on nowadays... did i mention that i have a hibernation tatoo on my tiny body?

13. Active minds - Insomnia
One of my favourite bands ever, this one is from '98... amazing...

14. Coldbringer - Coming home
Two guys of From ashes rise playing melodic punk rock in the vein of wipers and leatherface, enough said...

15. Forward - absolutely
My love song. the finest honda worshippers... japanese burning spirits hardcore... FORWARD... amazing once more (go here)

I had to reach 15 (counts of arson)... neither more, nor less... so, i left out bands like masakari, hammers or destino final that i really love... maybe the next time...

No hope for the kids - Discography

As you imagine, dbill has been kidnapped by the ultimate face of evil aka magneto. the police (fuck them either way) investigation still is on point zero, but as i suspect, he now propably is the new experiment in the boktorva's secret lab, in a cold, lonely place that civilians call (with terrifying disgust) moschato, a place that only vultures and cagoors (not kangaroos, don't be confused) can live... may god rest his lonely boxing gloves...

So, i have once more to get the snake outta it's hole... I thought that would be a good idea if i write dbill to my old-shoes gloom, fuck the k-town series and post the great Hitler died from tzatziki, but then i thought that i must continue dbill's legacy and post something danish and good...
As i am not the biggest owner of k-town knowledge, to make my life easy, i thought "post no hope for the kids, they rock", and...

No hope for the kids was a punk band from denmark formed by members of amdi petersens arme, asbest, hul, snipers, the natzees and young wasteners (i can continue...), they released two seveninches and one lp (and you'll get'em all, if you press the download button) and when they disbanded one billion bands came out of their ashes (to name a few : gorilla angreb. hjerte stop, pj bonnemann solo project and many more. check here for more infos)...

Now, i have heard too much descriptions of what really No hope for the kids sounds (a)like, and i have to talk my own bullshitting... If you like the old-school hardcore punk, melodic with clear, expressive vocals, mid paced drum-hitting going fast, heavy bass lines, catchy guitar works with a hard-rock attitude / playing, alongside lyric themes about depression, war and death (all written with a personal view, not the dis-clone-war-thing) then this is your new favourite band. The 7'' das reich is my personal favourite with the song secret police to be in my head for a couple of months (and i think : if i ever make a comp. cd to go for a car-trip, i'll use this track after motorhead's vibrator for sure)...
Last words : I have read an interview of these folks back in the day and i thought that they were total assholess (pathetic and apolitical = assholes), but then, maybe it's just the kind of danish humour that i can not get... The music fucking rules...
-mikxxx from the dusty surface of earth, called centre of athens...

angels of destruction

It took me sometime, but i managed to escape from the horrid terror, also known as ''Das Boktorva Bhq Laboratories''... dogde through some mean man-eating aligators of the infamous ''Rema Moschatou'', home of turbo sewer mutants, and could finally catch the extremely late 218 buss from the place of my capture, back to civilazation...what an adventure...more frustrating than trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with your KTM bike....Also during my ecape i lost an arm, and my left leg so writing this review, as well as playing for Antimob, will be done slower!!

It also took me some time to get into No hope for the Kids, but once getting introduced properly (i.e. sitting down and listening to them!) i found out a great band full of moody melodic guitar lines, giving a result that travels you through time....what a gay review!!!!!
Anyway, both their 7inchers and their LP totally rock your world, while the WWII lyrical theme creates a numb atmosphere...especially the song Kolyma, which refers to the russian Kolyma region, where thousands of political prisoners slaved to death by the russian (far from) communist tyrany of Stalin...

Unlike Mike, i have already made a compilation which includes the song ''Secret police'' from the ''Das Reich'' 7'', and it is just after Gulag's (old greek punk band) ''ethismos'', but before Rudimentary Peni, Bombenalarm and Judgement.

Amdi Petersens Arme - 1st ep & Blod Ser Mere Verkelict Ud Pa Film (7'')

Dbill :
It would be no lie to say that Amdi Petersens Arme was one of the biggest (if not the biggest) reasons K-Town got back in the map of international hardcorepunk.

Named after the leader of a cult organization (Amdi Peterse...no clue what sort of cult it was...worshipers of alien she-male jesuses, soon to commit suicide?) the band released a demo-tape, two 7inchers and gave presence at 3 compilations, if i am not mistaken.

The band's sound though is even larger than their legacy. Total raw oldschool punk sound, with a killer dirty attitude, that makes you want to take your nails out with a knife (see 'Blod Ser Mere Virkeligt Ud Pa Film' 7" cover). Really, a true soundtrack for looting smashed stores and threatening rich pigs with a sharp rusted pocket knife. Musically they don't sound seminal to anyone in particular (thats a big bonus), but one could generally say that they belong in the wide '80s american hardcorepunk sound...they even managed to capture this sound on their vinyl shit releases!

The first ep is relatively faster and more towards the roots of hardcorepunk, while the second one ('Blod Ser Mere Virkeligt Ud Pa Film') has a far more personal touch, while keeping in touch with early years Black Flag and the like. The band has disbanned since 2002, and members of them continued with the also great Young Wasteners, No Hope for the Kids, Gorilla Angreb...even Hjertestop (hehe Lasse fuck off!)...

All the metal, goregrind, gloomy crust war-themed bullshit albums combined can't be more threatening than one single song by Amdi Petersens Arme.

This is pure punk, and it can easily destroy your life.

Your pocket or your life, punk?

mikxxx :
Fuck, some times you get back to your home, feeling that your whole day, your whole life is shit and the meaning of it is a big, fat NOTHING... you feel exhausted and tired and angry and the list can go on forever...
Living in a city accurate described by dbill as zofos, and feling as zofos (zofos can be named a syndrome of everlasting numb, alongside dark clouds above your head and a heavy, black, cancerous anvil among your chest) too, is a weight, sometimes not to be uplifted!
Yeah, this day is one of those, you can't look your friends in the eyes and you have nothing to tell or to communicate with them, unfortunately... you may now think that i write a kind of post about the ultimate neo-crying-crust band, but... no, i am not...
If you feel like all the above mentioned shitty stuff and you want a hard, ass-kicking scotch in a music-form, you must download this two seveninches, not because mr.bonneman (gorilla angreb, no hope for the kids and a lot more) participated in this band (not as good as dbill would be, if he was behind the drumkit) but because you want something true, straight from the heart, that speaks for itself...
Amdi petersen arme is this kind of deal... punk(y), dirt(y) and street(y) all in one, as a vidal sasoon sampoo at maro kontou's head (or was she mairi chronopoulou?)... with a knife in the one hand and a cigarette ( slo-burn) in the other...
See for yourself, if you steel got - the- GUTS!

K-Town hardcore

DBILL the great :
Not so long ago, Mike and I had the idea of doing some mini specials on different scenes...after dropping the idea of posting the top 20 of greek ''la'i'ko'' rock-bottom pop ''skuladika'' music that greeks seem to hear nowadays, we thought of starting with K-Town related bands.

We recognize that its a scene which has been reviewed/presented/gloryfied way too many times, so would there be a point in posting stuff again? To tell you the truth, it sometimes feels like the only thing ''needed'' for a punk band to get awesome reviews (...best band of the year..., wow! what a record,...no other band has played this style!!...and so on...) in the well-established punk media (i.e. Maximum rock'n'roll and the like) is to be from the right country...If it happens that your band is from USA, Sweden, Denmark or Japan, even if it's a recording of your own farts after a grand veggie meal, it is almost sure that it will get hyped up as fuck. No joking really...i thought it was only my impression, but after talking with people (even with danish punk for example) they had the same opinion. On the other hand, bands from other countries, with not such a good ''name''/fame in the international DIY punk scene, usually don't get the attention they diserve, and/or they don't get anything but a two line review (at the best) saying that they sound like the ''usa, swedish, danish, japanese'' band...but not as good.

But, despite the ass-kissing words towards anything coming from countries like the aformentioned, K-town (alongside with Sweden, USA and Japan) has offered really great bands, totally inspiring and fresh. This special was my intention to inform mostly the greek punx about some bands that are worth their listen 100%...hope you enjoy...

P.S. Death Token and Love Potion will not be included in this series of posts, not because they are assholes (...they are!), but because they have been already posted in this blog...If you haven't downloaded their stuff, or even better got your filthy hands on their equally filthy good releases, then you are stupid, and the author of this crap article (i) carries no responsibility about the future of your pathetic little life.

P.S.2. For the k-town series we thought that would be more interested to make some upside-down(s), so... dbill will make all the writings and the band (to be posted) choises and mikxxx will make the comments... in a couple of hours press the refresh button......

Kick it of Mike.......

175 grams - self titled 7''

As d-bill is too lazy to put his own ass down and write some "articles" for k-town hardcore as he was promised, i grab the chance to post an amazing 7inch from the late 90's (i'm not so sure for the year, if anyone knows, share your knowledge)...

175 grams was an anarchist hardcore punk band from wellesley, massachusetts. This 7'' is one of my favourite 'cos was a total "single-hit" for my highschool years, absolute played ass-kicking hardcore punk... Imagine aus-rotten with no "i'm-reading-a-newsparer" lyric-sheet but anarcho-straighttotheheart stuff, with solid (and clear) bass lines to be over the top, angry vocals against state and capitalism, and "i'll-do-a-drum-change-if-you-pay-me-1-billion-dollars" drum hitting... Also i can call them alt t.c of usa 'cos they play(ed) my favourite mid-tempo hardcore punk style and they remind me the greeks a lot (alt t.c have 175grams on their thanx list at their split with 20 minutes de chaos, coincidence once more?)
This 7'' has been recorded, mixed, mastered and engineered at rodent popsicle studios by bill (popsicle / toxic narcotic) and has been released by rodent popsicle records alongside crowd control recordings (the band's own label)...
In this recording 175 grams was (were) :
ben-guitar / mike (not me)-drums / peteness-bass / steve sarcasm-vocals..
If anyone knows if these guys did other bands after the disband of 175grams please inform me, thanx...
ass-kicking hardcore-punk for life...

This change starts now!

Boktorva bhq - me thymase re file

Boktorva bhq was a band formed back in 1998 in the exotic city of mesologi, greece by three insane (as you can hear by their music quality) individuals who had been in the ghost-town (messologi) for their studies... and they had (not) destroyed several live stages for almost two years... The band was on hiatus untill... one day! They took the decision to record the material that they used to play 10 years before...
Let's take it step by step :
Boktorva consists of thrre guys well-known in the greek d.i.y scene : markos (schwartz and anger, drums), midas aka DropVirus666 (bass, antimob) and alex (something, Les skartoi - he is not so famous. hehe), but boktorva are NOT only these guys... Vocal duties has been equally shared by my beloved D-Bill ("memories fired-up, the first lad in tsamiko's dance"), gantzos (gadget / keitzer fan and ultra-magneto-guitar-hero) and zahos, jack (Despite everything) as well (and other two guys that i don't know and dbill forgot to mention)...
Music wise, the band plays a combo of 90's crust alongside crazy vocal changes and stupid guitar solo parts...
Some songs are old like a good bottle of wine, but they have also a new song "meta th boba (after the bomb)" that fucking rips (gantzos vocals are straight from hell), but my personal favourite is (with no competition) : "cripple commander" that has this opening snake-stoner riff and the lyrics start something like that : "Roll like a snake, see if you can ride a bike!!!!" lol, lol, lol, lol............ You can call it also surreal crustcore... HEHEHEHE!
The whole recording process and the mastering was made by the band itself so the cost was up to 0 $...
And as the band says : "crazy new album from the crust-core heroes boktorva bhq not available! thrashing and smashing 1998-2000, also we did an effort in grindin but noisin was more obvious than we expected. check our studio sessions on you tube, how did we make that perfect sound, and how did we record these perfect songs.YOU CANNOT DO IT, Still diy and no live comin up..."
D.I.Y. and dry bread...

Masakari - Live at WRUW's "Live from Cleveland" on Oct 1st 2009

Yeah, right. You know masakari (check out their 7'' here)...
So, download this stuff...
Nothing new, this live set has been posted a whike back at the band's blog but it fucking rip, so i had to repost it...
If you visit this blog, you know that i love masakari and their downtuned, haunted, epic and crusty melodic hardcore...
This shit has been recorded for a radio show, back in their hometown, cleveland...
For me, maybe the best crust band worldwide nowadays...
Also, this recording includes besides the tracks from their 7'', three tracks that has not been released yet.
20 minutes of raging hardcore / crust! Not bad at all i think...

enjoy

I asume this is for friends of Masakari, and die hard neo-crust followers...

The sound is pretty neat though, everything is heard, and they seem to play really tight so this could also serve as an introduction to the band. They seem a bit bored though to tell you the truth!!!

If you are a fan of His Hero Is Gone, Artimus Pylea nd the like then be sure to download this.

Just noticed that this is live for a radio show, not a live gig...they still seem a bit bored though!!!

I.O.U. - I owe you lp 2005

Just a heads up : After a lot of listens to this norwegian masterpiece i finally made the conclusion that if you had your speakers loud this stuff becomes fuzzy, so i re-extract it... take care
-mikxxx...

This is my first rip, out of vinyl... and i'm feeling a little bit weird, hope that i did everything perfect. My "totalrecorder" program has no split tracks option that's why you get side a and side b, sorry... Please listen to it and leave comments if the sound it's ok...

So, here is the long awaited extract of one of the most perfect albums ever came out of the motherland of black metal, but here you will get nothing like that...
I.O.U. is the perfect hardcore punk band consisting of five individuals : kristian, dagger, ozzak, gundersen and vegard. Five alienated Culture Industry employees rising from the ashes of the fine Norwegian hardcore acts Kids Like Us (their truth alone triumphs ep is so fucking awesome...), Crash and The Union Policy.
They had released two seveninches (i'm still looking for "under filthy wings" you fuckers) and a fucking lp-hurricane, this one! They had toured Europe four times and played tons of shows in their home country Norway. The LP/CD "I Owe You" was released last year as a split release by five diy labels (Dead Letter Records, Analemma Records, Kontrabande Records, Asyl Vinyl and Black Soul Family Records) so go and buy it...
This is the best album i have heard for a long time and (think that) came to my hands almost by coincidence...
A blistering combination of early us hardcore alongside some crusty and melodic parts. think how TRAGEDY would sound if they played ONLY covers of NEGATIVE APPROACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you want to hear anything more? And at their my(as)space, in the section "influences", you can read : Negative Approach, Minor Threat, Black Flag, Los Crudos, Tragedy, No Parade, From Ashes Rise....
The new must-be-loved band by d-bill (i think...)
ENJOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and leave comments

Every rock is an I.O.U (download)

Dbill driven crazy :
This is I.O.U, and they are Mikexxx's new obsession. The guy never stops talking about them!!

He talked about them when we went for a cup of coffee, he talked about them while we went for a hot pizza, he talked about them while we were at an antifascist demonstration...hell, he even wouldn't stop talking about them while we were chased by the fucking pigs (or was that Skitkids?)!!!!!!!

I avoid going to the bathroom in fear that Mike will come out of the toilet and start ranting about the ''under filthy wings'' ep...no really, it's like some plague that hits your friend, and you wish he gets well, but then again...if it made him shut up...!!!!! (just joking Mike...please don't kick me out of the blog!!)

On to the Norwegian posse now...This is hardcorepunk, and indeed it's a mix between old american hardcore and the more modern hardcore/crust wave. It gives a feeling akin to Endstand (mostly cause of the sound and the mix of old hardcore with melodies), though they don't sound really similar. The tracks fly by like a jet plane on fire, and the tunes make you wanna pogo like a norwegian salmon fish leaping out of the river!!! I'd prefer a more ruff 'n' tough production, but it seems that i get used to their (a bit) polished production the more i hear the LP (am i turning soft at the age of 25?).

Download it cause i don't know how Mike will react if the downloads don't reach 100!!!!...Also they are really good (if you really need more motivation to press on the download link...)..

The now denial - Viva viva threatening

While surfing on the net, i figure out that this diamond is not posted elsewhere, so i'm very glad that i can play the "smart-bad-ass" attitude...
The now denial is a fucking band! consisting of five gay-friendly handsome dolls from bremen, germany and the only think (that is (for)) sure is : with the end of this listening only nausea you should feel (if you still got feelings...)...
Let's start though... Now denial is a tractor-pulling, death-machine created by the ashes of HYBRIS, ENFOLD, HOCUS and DURANGO95, and in 2004 another member (from surf nazis must die (have you seen the movie? totally nuts. HEHE) this time) joined the team. The band has made several tours and released several albums. Here we have their second full lenght from 2004...
I can promise one thing : you'll get you're broomwood (new word, mine) and you won't stop sing along and fighting with ypur grandma ('cos we are in greece and all the hardcore / crusties live with their parents, grandparents, grand grand parents etc. dbill's included (i'm not included))...
I know that i have wrote the words mix, blender etc. a lot of times but if one band has to be named as an explosive mixture of genres and rhythms this band is definetely NOW-DENIAL... Example : the track "rotten, rotten, rotten"  is an ugly hardcore track (we all know it, even if we don't say it) and suddenly turn out to be melodic punk rock with a riff that stays in your little brain ('cos is little, if you're still reading my awful english nonsense(s)) forever... My personal favourites are : slaves, eraser and seek refuge in attack...
When you feel anger, anxiety and boredom all in one this is definetely the right soundtrack to make a walk from exarchia all the way to pagrati (through kolonaki), spit some very expensive "windows" and buy "draminh bougatsa" (no meat you fucker) at ymitou street...
Lyrics about (fuck the) gender, police brutality (with plans about the final extermination of cops), backstabbing stuff (aka "roots"), daily boredom and tediousness (check the eraser's lyrics : "my ass is nailed to the chair. obey, adapt, shut up and feel free.")
too sweet to be punk, too punk to be hardcore, too hardcore to be crust, too cynical to be anything at all

Check a previous post for denial, here

we buy our dependence, and they keep on killing  (download fuckers)

Wolverine :
It seems more and more difficult to write something unbiased about a band when you've met some of it's members... Maybe because you remember the good times, the jokes etc. but mostly because then you realise (when you've talked face to face with someone) whether or not his music/words are sincere or not. When a person is original, his actions are original.

The Now-Denial are original. They deal with very interesting, and to the point, social issues, while musicwise one could say they remind a neo-crust genre, but they are not neo-crust. Very nice guitar mellodies, beautiful groovy bass lines, and galloping drumwork. Again, this is one band that makes you read the lyrics while listening to the record, and this seems like something hard in the punk world lately.

Extra points for their different aesthetic, since they don't use this totally worn out war theme photo bullshit, bringing something fresh to the scene.

Everyone you saw them live in greece (zofos), or elsewhere (also zofos!) has been talking about their marvelous performance.

This is not a new record but definately worth every stamp you will pay for, so that they can send it over to you, since Soren is a pro table Fussball player, and Rob did a killer mastering for Antimob (hehe)!

A.P.D. - demo

Some time ago dany from torino has sent me some links for the hardcore punk band frammenti, and a couple days ago sent me a link to check out his old band from torino (turin). In his own words : APD (antisocial personality disorder) it's my old band. Shitty, downtuned, crust / grind. Our drummer was the same of Social Inseurity and Afterbirth at they start.
Luka used to live in scortland, and when he come back we started to play to support our friends Ratbull Bite, but they fast broke up and their gutarrist joined us on APD and we played for three-four years only in italy, in our anarcho/punk scene. Alex ,our bass player is living @ EL PASo, our oldest Squat.
4 guys with too many different priorities, work,  politics, stupidity etc... 4 years seems too much time for APD... (bob-voice, luka-drums, alex-bass, marco-guitar, dany-guitar)

Now, some guys from APD created the band Zeitgeist...
Here you get well played old-scholl grindcore with topics against state and gods (in general, including Gantzos religion) with crusty mid-tempo parts before blastbeat attacks. You may not get the new (!!!!) nasum album here but this band is very good for the type of music that plays (i have to admit : i'm not the biggest fan of grindcore)...
Hope you'll enjoy them... cheers daniel

download

Hour of the chicken :
Never heard of A.P.D. before, and i guess i won't hear anything new since they have apparently dis-banned!

Actually, this isn't bad at all...indeed this isn't your new Nasum-like favorite band, but they definately have their moments...This is something between the older grindcore stuff (Napalm Death, Brutal Truth etc.) and the more modern tunes of bands like Nasum, Rotten Sound (fuck!!!) and Gadget.. Death like riffs, which are followed by some rocking crusty parts, with dual vocal trade-offs from deep gutteral grouwl to screaming scorcher.

Some tracks have a kind of a good production (the ones with the more mature structure and more powerfull riffs), while others don't follow expectations (the older ones i guess..more raw but in a bad way), but since this is a demo they are easily excused!

Not bad at all.

Totalalitar - Gia ena aurio... (demo)

Here we have, not the ultra pioneers of old-school d-beat hardcore from sweden, but ultra katsa-punks from thessaloniki, greece. Katsa punk is a music genre that took form in greece under very difficult circumstances... 'Cos you must have guts to take elements from uk punk of the 80's, anarchopunk or even early european hardcore, to mix it and the result to be so shitty and awful (as japan's (music) has to do something with susi and portland (music and women) has to do something with the industrial water, greece's hardcore music is a real mystery. How the majority of bands is so shitty?)...
But not all of them, no. no. no...
Here we have some serious, killing, '77 - '82 uk punk with all the great elements. Passionate, from the heart, with voices straight from my grandma's well, and melodic for endless sing-alongs...
Gia ena aurio means "for a tomoroww... (different)"
So, enjoy...

Hour of the wolverine :
Hey ho, let's go! I remember we played with Totalalitar in Salonika (exei dika mas paidia!) @ Orfanotrofio squat (exei dika mas paidia!). I'm not a big fan of UK '77 punk, but those punks fucking rocked live. Simple and rocking punk riffs, sweet sing along melodies, and Nikolakis (their singer) saying really bad/cold jokes between the tracks.

I therefore came back home (zofos athens hardcore city, exei dika mas paidia!) with one of their cd's in my bag, kind courtesy of mr. Nikolakis trellakias himself (oust gourouni!). To be honest though, their cd doesn't give the feeling i had at their live perfomance. It might just not be my style, but their music doesn't really touch me. Maybe cause i don't have a mohawk, or zips on my tight pants.

If you're a fan of katsapunk, or want to become one, then maybe this is your stuff.

Slang - Immortal sin

Another band from Japan and i know what you thinking... FUCKING YEEEEA (without hhhhh, short and sharp as a japanese sword)
Late night, the rain keeps falling, make your wet boots much more wet... the dark alley seems so peacefull but suddenly you feel a warm unfriendly blade licking your beautiful neck... don't panic... use reflexes and kill that bastard, drink his blood and listen to a slang's album (this one i suggest)...
Slang is a 20 years old (much more older than a good, mature scotch) band, that fucks some ears just to have fun. Coming from sapporo city, these maniacs are the perfect soundtrack to throw some rocks in the first police pig you'll meet outside your home...
Energetic, pissed-off, fast and angry with some motorhead influences (listen to "no hope no life" and "humanistic disorder"), dbeat magics and stuff... reminds me of early blowback a lot (great band also)
THE IMMORTAL SIN referring to the Hiroshima Nuclear Detonation (the album cover is of the lone surviving Hiroshima Dome)
What else to say?

download

Pay some respect, losers :
Fuuuuuckkkk....i had no idea of the existance of this jap bastard, until i read about them in the ''Japan and Disorderly'' article in Mountza no.4 (written by Fabsie and ..''aaghuum''..Wiho of the not so good BURIAL..hehe!!), and dear ol' mikey Mike posted the ''Immortal Sin'' LP.

Heavy japanese hardcore (i feel i've used this fraze way too many times this month!), metalic influenced, but PUNK dominated!! Jockingly, this is how CROW would sound if they played FORWARD covers....Dear gents and gals, SLANG has nothing to fear, and stands fast amongst the titans of the japcore [ ;) ] genre. Bulldozer-like crusty hardcorepunk, pullverizingly beautifull, with a full bass sound...they have earned a spot in my new cd-r compilation for driving around zofos city, aka. @thens...

Zeroid - 2004 lp

Once upon a time was a band called Jeniger. Jeniger released two 7'' and a lp and then disbanded (i think). After that some guys from jeniger formed the band ZEROID...
Zeroid was a band from germany, and besides this lp have also released a lp back in 2001 and a 10'' in 2002 (that you can buy it easily as one cd - see below for labels)...
This album is the final one 'cos later the band fell in hiatus...
Dark and metallic crust is the sound pollution that these guys offer with their arms aloft. Down-tuned guitars and bass lines alongside fast drumming, some blast-beats every now and then to make the whole mix unpredictable and weirdly catchy with fucking solid, heavy and metallic production (or is the mastering?)... Not the band that dbill would like, but all of you, the dark hardcore / crust maniacs with the from ashes rise posters above your mama's pillow will get little secret orgasms for about half an hour from these dreadlocking crusties...
All of you (like me of course) that bands like schifosi, november 13th or even rubbish heap drives you crazy and a passion to buy some gasoline gallons and start some play-off arson grows bigger and bigger would not be disappointed, believe me...
And to make my own advertisement : You know that this blog posts no SHIT !!!
This cd has been released by three labels : Unsociable / per koro records / totenschiff and it's still available...

download

Dark metallic hardcore is kind of a weird genre for me...Not because i don't like it at all, but mostly because most of the bands don't keep the punk background on the way they work their tunes....Too muck emphasis on the heavy sound, lots of cliche chugga-chugga guitar parts, words that are said just to said...''shallow'' is a word that would describe what i think of most of the bands of this style.

But...there are exceptions to the rule (as always). Zeroid can fit into one of these exceptions. Dark intense hardcore, that leans heavily towards the atmospheric side of things creating a suffocating feeling. Kinda like the audio equivalent of a Kafka (the author...not the band) book (maybe ''the Trial'' or ''The Sinic wall and other short stories'')...They don't let the production do the talking for them, instead the band structures really good pieces equally fast and slow, almost mud sludgy-like. Screams from a sore throat, nice unmelodical-melodies from the guitar, part blast beats part slow pounds from the drummer, and fuzzy heavy bass lines supporting the main musical idea.

This doesn't sound like the His Hero Is Gone (aka. destructor as fuck!) stuff, nor the Jeniger (aka. destructor no.2) releases, from the ashes of which Zeroid formed. I'd say they sound similar (no copy stuff) with Paranoia Keeps Crawling, Arsen (also released by Unsociable-Hate records as Zeroid) and The Last Mile.

Concrete sox - Live (tour japan '92)

I don't know what to say about this band...
I'll try to keep things simple...
Concrete sox is the best hardcore band that came out of uk (after ripcord). For me they were better from heresy (what a blasphemy!! hehe)... They shared members with heresy, city indians and a few tones more...
This is from wiki :
Concrete Sox are a british crust punk band largely seen as an early style crossover thrash band who incorporated many thrash metal style riffs on their earlier albums.
Started in 1983 from jam sessions with 'Gabba' (Chaos UK/F.U.K.) and 'Kalv' (Heresy/Geriatric Unit) and various other 'friends', the band were formed by Vic Timoveric (Vic Croll) and his friend Les Duly. Not set on a permanent name, they once gigged as 'Concrete Evidence', but the name 'Concrete Sox' (Vics parody of a Hendrix Dead Boy sub-band, called 'The Steam Roller Gloves') became the bands official name. First release was the LP Your Turn Next in 1985 on COR records followed by —a split LP with heresy in 1987. The band went on to record a further album on Manic Ears records entitled Whoops, Sorry Vicar! (1987) and a fourth album on Big Kiss records entitled Sewerside (1989). They later released a further album entitled No World Order in the early 1990s.
They were one of the more important of the British hardcore punk influenced thrash bands during the late 1980s..

Here you get a live recording  from 7 / 11 / 92 outta osaka, japan, and except ten at least arigato from the englishmen you also get a cover from discharge's "death dealers" and s.o.d.'s "speak english (japanese) or die" alongside some killer sox songs...
Also get their silence 7'' here
Now, they are active again and planning a new european tour

extremely hardcore

Dbill from 80's :
Sometimes you wonder with yourself, how an amazing band has been under your nose (or between your other records in this circumstance!), and you never gave them a listen until some years after you passed by the record sleeve, again and again!!

Last night i listened to the silence EP and started banging my head against the walls... Fucking good thrash punk, speedy and angry, a true diamond amongst the UK punk scene. This is equivalent to Discharge, Ripcord, Heresy and the lot...give it a carefull listen and start playing like this with your band!

Zone - First blow is the half battle 7''

Yeah, after a while i have my own internet connection so now, i can more easily disturb you... HEHEHE
As i have promised here's zone's 7'' (from 1996) that will blow your mind away.. Crazy ugly guitars alongside the well-known japanese vocals and d-beat till the end... I have no further informations about these lunatics except that is from tokyo and dbill already loves them as the screams from the gutter and no beast so fierce blogs should do also... HEHEHE...
Awesome japanese hardcore once again...
Check a zone's 7inch from 1994 here

download

Not the dbill's mohawk :
There are bands that grow on you as you listen to them, and there are bands that instantly give this feeling that something just isn't there...Zone has nothing to do with any of the afformentioned categories...

This is frantic japanese hardcore, played by japanese punks, the japanese way. Again you get full-on attack mode guitar assaults, rabid singalongs with the main singer spewwing his guts out, while the rhythm section is rock solid...I don't know haw the japs do it...it must something in their sushi or whatever, but 90% of the releases from the country of the rising sun are energetic as fuck, this one included.

Maybe not the best japanese hardcore band, but they compete seriously with the pioneers of this punk style...dig in.

Straightjacket nation - Cheap kicks 7''

Hour of the WOLVERINE :
Like a steamroller building up speed, this 7'' gives you maybe cheap kicks, but fucking lots of them!

Straightjacket Nation play pure pissed off 80's american hardcorepunk, the way no greek band will ever get close to play, and this is really sad to admit...fuck....

Like the one punch knockout ''Cheap Kicks'' only needs about 4 minutes to send you to the closest hospital with a cardiac arrest, this review is equally small cause there is nothing more that needs to be said...punk..

p.s. the interview in Mountza zine, with their member who is behind Distort fanzine is really
enlightening..read it.

Arxi tou telous (Beginning of the end) - Thorivos (noise)

This band has nothing to do with the 3 piece crust group beginning of the end from uk...
Arxi tou telous (Beginning of the end in english) is a four piece act from athens, greece...
After making some important member changes (bassist and drummer) these guys started  to take their selfs more seriously, and the mini greek tour with usa's anarcho crust-punks Witch hunt is a proof i think..
As you imagine the name is borrowed by the almighty Amebix, and yes indeed these guys you can say that have some later amebix influences, mainly in the battle hymn drum hitting (i think). As it's perfectly clear, the main songwriting was made by the guitarist and mastermind of the band K. A lot of "weird" killing joke's guitars mixed with huge fugazi guitar parts more or less (red medicine era), even some post rock long time "fillers". The bass lines are solid (from the good friend and classmate P.) and clear enough, so you can understand what the hell is happening... The only thing that i don't like is the vocals that is a little bit poetic and clear and i think that doesn't match so good, but then that's my opinion, i guess i would prefer it more screaming...
This is a self release and i think is already out so check it out and buy it to help the band make more great music... I had stolen this rip from greek punk blog so cheers to them

Forward - Burn down the corrupted justice

In the mid-90's the exotic fruit named death side broke up.. (to tell you one more sin, in the great question : death side or bastard ? I vote bastard with my eyes closed. sorry d-bill)
Their singer, ishiya, left no time to pass him by and soon enough created FORWARD... (also, other members of death side created a couple of japcore legends such as judgement and paintbox)
A bunch of 7'' (get two of them here) and four full lenght albums is the legacy of FORWARD...
From the devastating year of 2004 here we have this little diamond, the last forward's lp that has been released in HG:fact records and i think it's expensive enough (if you wanna buy it)...
This one is my favourite lp (i love this fucking kanji song), the perfect combination of pure japcore power alongside catchy song-writting (thanx to mountza fanzine for the copyright)
Forward is probably the most active japanese band and has toured the states alongside warhead and tragedy back in 2006...
I forgot to mention the member changes. A lot of guys that used to play in other great japcore bands (check out systematic death and insane youth for example) played (more or less) for forward also. hehehe...
So, make some downloads....

Pure fucking JAPCORE

(P.S. thanx also to the no beast so fierce blog for insane youth and the other goodies... thanx, sean

P.S. i was in posting mood and the next one up was Selfish's "cause pain", but d-crust blog catch me up and post it before i realize it... hehehe... so, check it out here)

dbill is a man of his (late) word...

Forward:

You are riding (and by riding I mean going at about 130cph)your favorite japanese ''pure-bred'' (..''ka8aro'' gia ta alania) 500cc two-stroke, oil-spitting, blood-tornado enduro motorbike...nothing too flashy....just an over-cylindered double-torque mountain monster that swallows every obstacle that can come on it's way for breakfast...

Suddenly, you see four police cars, and a couple of polise bastards on motorbikes blocking the road ahead of you...lights flashing from blue to red, sirens can be heard on the background, and you know ''the man'' has no good intention towards you.

But you are calm...by stepping on the back brake your companion (the afformentioned 1993 Honda CR 500) turnes 90 degrees after leaving a 10 meter skid mark. The tires are smoking and so is your attitude towards the pigs of the law. Your mind is fixed on the targed...no turning back...just Forward...

Forward is your reason of going full throtle against a wall of death... Raw like your impending collition, monolithic like your state of mind, rocking like your foreseen death.

These Japs have no intention of stopping for anything and anyone...they just go (go ahead!), blazing through 11 tracks of total hardcorepunk fury...the drums are pounded the heavy speedy way (i.e. the right way!), the bass is an earthquake of pure low-tuned attack, and the guitars never stop cranking riff after riff after riff...and to top things off a crazy Japerman verbal assaulting you (irrelevant, but listen to Verbal Abuse! (irrelevans no.2 but listen also to Total Abuse!)) with words more caustic than acid.

This might be the soundtrack to your death, but it is the best death soundtrack anyone can get close to...

Forward is your reason for turning your own throttle further than full speed...

Now go Forward, forward to death.

No parade - Ceaseless Fire lp

After 7 fucking hours of a trip (.trance.travelling.) to hell aka a shitholl of 15000 people in the north west of the shithole of greece (see previous posts), i managed to reach my target aka the bed of my youngness... So, for this fucking time my mp3 player played - over and over again - an anathematized type of hardcore punk... These three fellas fuck the fuck around with this awesome, in-your-face, no artsy-fartsy, no shinning production, no tzoutzou mproutzou, hardcore punk...
But, first i'l give you some notices that i found on other blogs :

"Personel of From Ashes Rise crank out 15 tracks of stripped down Hardcorepunk in a Deathreat/Talk is Poison/Balance of Terror/Sleeper Cell kind of way.
The tempo is kept pretty moderate,3 participants (bass, guitar, drums) of which 2 share the vocal duties"...

..."Fifteen tracks of powerful but catchy hardcore from No Parade. The style is similar to From Ashes Rise or Tragedy, and in fact No Parade features members of From Ashes Rise. The music is harsh and hard hitting with screamed vocals, but the melodic underbelly keeps the songs memorable and almost pleasant"

In fact this band is From ashes rise 'cos all the three guys that no parade is / was used to play in from ashes rise...
My own ear say to me though : "this is a well-played hardcore punk. Take for the musical carpet the defined from the masters of genre, d-beat (yeah, i know. D-beat is a dogma, a religion etc... Yeah! Right, you losers), fill it with some terrific dis-riffs plus well-hidden "from ashes rise" tricks and dual male acidic vocals. Plus it's a release from partners in crime records (tragedy's bassist label) with the just perfect cover... (download to see it, you fucker)
And i will allow d-bill to say fabian's (burial's drummer) opinion about no parade, njoy

download

Dbill's sideburns :
On the spot, tuff and hard-hitting, without any goofing around, pure energy hardcore punk stripped to it's core..this is the sound of No Parade.

No need to  tell who is who since Mike did a pretty good job above, but to keep things simple think what From Ashes Rise would sound like if they replaced part darkness (..vlepe ''zofos'') with anxiety, and part crust epicness with straight forward attack mode (..vlepe ''lakwnikothta'', ''mpes sto pshto'', ''a'i'ntaaa pameee'' kai alla tetoia).

His Masters Voice, aka. Fabian says they are better than F.A.R. and you KNOW you should listen to a guy who plays in a band called Burial.

This is hardcorepunk and you should listen to it.
